PTO
Hello all,
Just wanted to let every one know that JBE now has a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Ms. Karen Carter is the President of the PTO. Ms. Carter has organized the meetings and is in the process of creating a PTO Board of Directors. I am very excited about the number of parents that have attended the meetings and volunteered to help our students through the PTO. Thursday, October 27, 2010,at 9:00 am in the gym the PTO is sponsoring an assembly to have a Hinesville police officer speak to our students about safety during fall celebrations. If you would like to offer assistance to our PTO, you can contact Ms. Carter at Jbe_president@yahoo,com.

Dear Parents,
I want to welcome you to Jordye Bacon Elementary School (JBE) and congratulate you and your child for helping JBE make the required Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) for the eighth straight year. Without your help our school could not have accomplished this milestone.
Our staff has been working hard all summer to prepare for the new school year. As always our focus is to improve the instruction of our teachers and the achievement of our students. We cannot do this without your continued help and cooperation. Please remind your child that we have high expectations concerning their academics, attendance, and their behavior.

CRCT
Dear Parents,
All first through fifth grade students will be taking the CRCT (Criterion-Referenced Competency Test). * First and second graders will be testing April 19th through April 21st. *Third through 5th graders will test April 19th through April 23rd. The purpose for this test is to obtain information that will help us diagnose individual student strengths and weaknesses, and to gauge the quality of education throughout Georgia. We have been working very hard this year preparing your child to do his/her best. There are several things you can do to help us.
You can contribute to good test performance. Please help us with the following:
• Make sure your child arrives on time for school. Try not to schedule any appointments for your child the mornings of the test.
• Make sure your child is well rested. During testing, it might be a good idea that they go to bed earlier. Children who are tired are less likely to pay attention in class or to handle the demands of a test.
• Make sure your child eats a good breakfast. A healthy body leads to a healthy, active mind.
• Make sure your child feels your support. Encourage them to do their best. But try not to be overly anxious about the test scores. Too much emphasis can be upsetting to children.
• If your child wears an assistive device, such as a hearing aid and/or glasses, be sure he/she remembers to bring it and wear it during all testing sessions.
• Lastly, please be mindful that testing sessions cannot be interrupted. If a student arrives after testing has begun, they will have to remain in the office until the session is over. Also keep in mind that a student may not be signed out during a test session.
We have very high expectations!! I know if we work together, we will excel. Remember, “Jordye Bacon Always Buzzes With The Best!!”
Thanks for all you do.

JBE's January News...
Our second 9 weeks AR party was held on Friday, January 15 in the cafeteria. We had 75 students in first through fifth grade to meet their individualized AR goal and maintain an 85% average or higher for the 2nd 9 weeks. These students were treated with a special cake, and they also received a goody bag with Snowman Soup, a bookmark, a Pizza Hut gift certificate, and candy. All of the students were entered into a drawing for a Walmart gift card...we had 10 lucky winners of the gift cards. The students seemed to really enjoy the celebration. Please remember to encourage your students to participate in AR and try to achieve their goals for the third 9 weeks.

Welcome Back
As we begin a new year and the second semester of school, I want to take this opportunity to thank all parents, students, teachers, and staff for a great first semester. Our staff continues to work very hard to make sure all our students are successful academically.
Parents please help by supporting your child and your child's teacher. Without your support it will be difficult for your child to experience success at Jordye Bacon. I want to remind parents that report cards go home January 12th and January 18th is a school holiday. Feel free to visit our school at anytime. We look forward to working with you the rest of the school year.
